Weight LOSS

meet your goals

physician supervised weight LOSS

According to the most recent statistics, over 70% of American adults are either overweight or obese. Hundreds of thousands of people fall short of their dieting and weight loss goals each year and the incidence of obesity is spiraling out of control.

Obesity is the most prevalent chronic disease in our society.  Yet, many physicians are not trained in how to manage it.  As a board-certified Obesity Medicine physician, Dr. Howson is trained in the science and treatment of obesity and obesity related diseases.  She can apply her training and knowledge to achieve your weight loss goals and provide continued weight maintenance management.

Obesity is associated with the following:

  • High blood pressure
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Dyslipidemia (high LDL, low HDL, or high triglycerides)
  • heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Many types of cancer
  • Osteoarthritis (joint pain)
  • Sleep apnea
  • Gallbladder disease
  • Depression and/or anxiety

There are several factors in weight gain and loss, such as neurohormonal signals of hunger and satiety, genetics, metabolism, gut microbiome, physical activity, emotions/behaviors, nutrition, and environmental influences.  The underlying cause is primarily neurohormonal, not the traditional belief of a caloric imbalance.

We provide individualized care to each patient by incorporating different weight loss strategies, educating you during the process, while working together to achieve success.  We have many weight loss options including prescribed weight loss medications, multiple diets that complement your health risk profile and lifestyle, exercise recommendations and supplements.

During your initial visit, we will discuss your medical history, your weight and nutrition history, your current medications, and behavioral habits.  We perform body composition analysis and continue to monitor your progress using the seca mBCA554.  We will obtain labs to better assess your health risk profile and use a baseline to make modifications to your diet.  These tools can be very motivational in our journey to optimizing your health!
